is knee-length or long formal dress more appropriate for piano diploma examination?

I’ll be sitting for the ATCL piano examination in 2 weeks from now. It states that a formal dress which is suitable for afternoon or evening recital whould be worn. However I’m not too sure if a knee-lengthed or long formal dress is better to be worn. A little help and suggestion would be much appreciated :) thank you

What coat to wear over an evening gown?

My family is going out to the theater and to dinner for Christmas this year. It’s going to be quite a lavish affair with limos and champagne, the whole nine. I also have a gorgeous evening dress, but I have no idea what to wear over it outside. It’s going to be winter, and snowy, and cold, so a shawl won’t do, I need a coat. What kind of coat can I get to look good over an evening dress? And it’s not a gown-gown, so it’s not big at the bottom, but it is very formal.

Okay, Im confused! I have a formal dinner/banquet to go to and I would think formal would mean a long evening?

gown right? Well, a couple months ago, I went to another formal event, and every girl was wearing short dresses!!!! So, my question is for a formal event, can a short dress be appropriate? Thanks!

What is formal dress on a Cruise?

I am going on holiday onboard the thomson destiny in a few days time and I have all the tickets and information. Among the information though it reads: "A dress code applies during the evening. Excvept for on a formal night, the dress code is smart casual which means full length trousers and an open necked shirt/polo shirt for men and equivalent attire (e.g casual seperates or dresses for ladies)" My query is, what is meant by smart casual? can it be denim full length trousers or is it more formal than that meaning black cotton trousers or something similar?

Any response is fab.
Thanks :)
I am going on Thomson Cruise lines on board the Thomson Destiny if this helps at all????

Would you want bridesmaids to wear SEXY, revealing dresses on your wedding day?

My brother is getting married. His fiance’s sisters both picked out sexy, revealing evening/prom dresses that are NOT bridesmaid dresses to wear as bridesmaids. I am a woman and suppose to be in this wedding too. These dresses have cleavage/breast areas revealed and have a long slit down one side of the dress towards the front revealing 1 leg (almost the full leg) on the dress. My mother even agreed with me that these dresses seem inappropriate to wear as a bridesmaid.
I want to wear a more conservative dress that also fits me/ looks decent on me, as I am larger in size than FSIL’s 2 sisters. FSIL is letting her sisters order any dress they want, in different fabrics (I think they will look strange together side by side). YET FSIL wants to try and tell me what to wear and is only worried that I will pick a dress that will look odd/out of place next to her sexy sisters’ dresses! I found appropriate dresses that match color and even fabric to 1 of the sisters dresses and yet FSIL still has a problem with my choices. It really upsets me that her sisters can wear anything they want yet she won’t let me pick a normal bridesmaid dress that is appropriate/ conservative and will look good on my body. She doesnt trust my own judgment about what will look good on ME.

Here are the dresses her sisters are wearing to the wedding as bridesmaids (note that each dress is labeled as prom or evening dress, not a bridesmaid dress). Do you think these are appropriate to wear to a wedding as a bridesmaid?

And here is a dress I like. Do you think this dress will match (when I pick royal blue as the color to match the sisters’ dresses) and look appropriate? Am I crazy for not wanting to show off my leg or boobs at a wedding?! It hurts me that she won’t tell her sisters what to wear and lets them go crazy, yet constantly questions my judgment about what I should wear. She also seems to think she has to lecture me about how this is a FORMAL event and that I need to wear a formal dress! Even though I am choosing proper formal bridesmaid dress options that I have shown her. She also wants me to order from some random website her sisters picked yet has a problem with me ordering from another website that cost less!

I would really appreciate advice from WOMEN who are over 20 who have been bridesmaids before and/or a bride.
So far I only have opinions from a man who doesn’t understand fashion for weddings and a teenage girl.
I am larger in size than her sisters so I have to wear certain styles (such as rouching, etc at the waistline) and FSIL doesn’t seem to understand. I have given her several examples of similar real bridesmaid dresses (not prom) and she hates every real bridesmaid dress I suggest. She seems to want her bridesmaids to wear sexy dresses that are more for a party/ new years eve than a bridesmaid dress. I don’t know what to say to FSIL now. She quote "doesn’t want me to look plain compared to her sisters"
What really upsets me is that her sisters picked out their own dresses. They didn’t listen to the bride or go by her opinion! They got what they wanted. And yet the bride wants to tell me what to wear but not her sisters. There is no equality here.

Where is a good place to find an elegant prom or evening dress?

My budget is 0, but if it’s a stunning dress, I’ll spend up to 5. I don’t do poofy princess dresses, but something more sleek and sophisticated. I like backless, but nothing slutty. Floor length. I’d prefer something with a rich color. No oranges or pinks. My Formal (which is like a prom) is May 10th, but I don’t want to wait too long when everything is too picked over. I’m a size 4-6 depending on the brand.
