Obviously, it would be with a tie, but just wondering if black shirts by themselves are disqualified from business formal. Thanks.
This would be in financial services, a multinational investment bank.
There seems to be some misunderstanding. By business formal I mean a certain kind of daytime dress code (a step up from "business casual"), not evening formal wear. A black dress shirt = a regular dress shirt that happens to be black.

our school is having this formal thing were you have to wear a dress and heels. i got this sparkly black dress and im totally not girly..or into that heel or dress stuff at all. I’m really a rocker type person..how do I add a rocker flair to my formal dress? I was thinking of wearing a tie..but more idea would be helpful. thanks.

or does it have to be long? It’s for a private film screening and the invitation says formal.

I’m going to an out-of-town birthday party and was told to bring formal dress, and that we were to attend several shows and such. I have a sleeveless knee length black dress and black patent pumps. Any suggestions on how to do hair (thick below shoulder hair) and accessories? Also, should I wear pantyhose or not? Thanks.

I’m a pale/freckly white person, with green eyes and redish blondish hair. I do wanna make it more pop outish kinda make up then just normal boring natural stuff. Give me some tips. I’ll be wearing a black, silky long dress.
